The degree is the same everywhere. How you build the final project usually isn't.
Most BIT students finish the degree without ever building software the way the industry actually builds it — version control from the first commit, a design that gets reviewed before it gets coded, requirements that get revisited when they turn out to be wrong, and a codebase built to be handed to someone else, not just demoed once and closed. That's not a knock on any one institute. It's just how a final-year project usually gets assembled: solo, against a deadline, optimised to pass an evaluation rather than to survive contact with a second developer.

An external degree, not an in-house course
The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) is an external degree: you register for it directly, and PSR Academy prepares you for it through structured teaching — not by enrolling you at the university itself.
An externally awarded degree
BIT is awarded as an external degree — PSR Academy is an independent institute, not a campus, branch, or partner of the awarding university. Every lecture is delivered online, with optional practical sessions in Colombo roughly once a month.
Decades of industry recognition
BIT is one of the oldest external degree programmes in Sri Lanka. It's been running for decades, and the industry already knows it well — this isn't a new or unfamiliar credential to employers.
Everything a Bachelor's degree opens up
BIT is a real Bachelor's degree, so it opens the same doors any Bachelor's degree does — especially in software, where the field already knows and hires BIT graduates. That includes further study: postgraduate degrees, locally or abroad.

What usually goes wrong
A final-year project is normally built alone, against a deadline, for an audience of one evaluator. Version control shows up the week before submission, if at all. Nobody reviews the code except the student who wrote it. Requirements get written once and never revisited, even after they turn out to be wrong. The result works long enough to demo — and rarely a day longer.
How we run it
We guide the same project through the process a real engineering team would use: version control from the first commit, requirements that get revisited as the picture changes, and code that gets reviewed by someone other than the person who wrote it. The people guiding it are still doing this work themselves — the founder is a practising Lead Engineer, and the wider team includes a PhD in Virtual Reality and a senior AI tech lead.
What you walk away with
Not just a completed project — a codebase built the way the industry actually expects one to look: a real commit history, documentation someone else could pick up, and a system that survives being handed to a second developer. That's a different outcome than 'job ready'. It's a project that's hard to replace with a template, and hard to dismiss in an interview.
Some students want to build a company, not join one.
We treat that as an equally valid outcome of the degree, not a fallback for students who couldn't get hired.
The final-year project you build here is already built to the standard a founder needs on day one — a working product with a real version history and documentation, not a class exercise built to pass a viva. Entrepreneurship guidance is available to students who want to take that project further, or start something new.

Do I have to come to Colombo?
No. Every lecture is online. Practical sessions happen in Colombo roughly once a month, but they're encouraged, not mandatory — nothing required to pass the programme is practical-only.
Is this an official university branch?
No. PSR Academy is an independent institute. We are not a campus, branch, or partner of any university.
What if I work full time?
Every lecture is online, and the monthly practicals are optional — many students study alongside a full-time job.
What do the practicals cost?
